From bedroom window in Lucerne

- Vineyards on Lausanne Boat Trip
Katia Wilcox and her sister Claudine invited the North Hero artists to visit their home in Switzerland. Of course, I went. Their family runs at school in Lausanne. While the students were on break, we were invited to stay in the domitory and had the cook and diningroom to ourselves and enjoyed the use of the bus and driver for day trips. I managed to do a few sketches and kept up a daily collage memory of our trip.

Bedroom at l'ecole LeMania
A fasinating museum of outsider art captivated all of us. You must visit it a http://artbrut.ch. Words do not describe the experience. These “artists” created in solitude with no viewers of their creations. They almost obsessively repeated their idiosyncratic work throughout their lives, often only becoming know after their death as their rooms were cleaned out. It causes one to reflect on the powerful need to express one’s inner life through art making.
I managed some time to sketch as we took a boat trip down the river in Lausanne and during a break on a day trip to Interlaken.

Motley Crew at Cafe in Ascona
- From cafe in Ascona, on my last day in Switzerland, I did one of my quick, one continuous line, drawings. For the sake of my friends, I must tell you that these “portraits” do not do them justice…but they do make me chuckle. The tree in Ascona and the sign remind me of how much we walked and how friendly Switzerland is to walkers. The signs reveal walking time. I love it.
I wish I had enough time to turn some of these memories into paintings. Perhaps if I stop blogging, I will find the time and the motivation.
