Art Trip to Cyprus

CypressDay10016A group of artists travelled to Cyprus at the invitation of Jeannie Peterson, who lived there and summered in North Hero, Vermont; where the group spends creative time together.  We enjoyed walking in the steps of Aphrodite.  Two pictures which reflect the fun that we have made it into one of my collages, created upon my return.  We took a group shot of us mimicking the statue of Aphrodite.  And another fun shot was sitting on the bench outside of a monastery with our legs crossed.  We had just been chastised by the “brothers” while we attended a service in the chapel for sitting with our legs crossed.  The resultant collage was created by me as a gift to my group of travelling friends. To produce this collage, I did an image transfer using a combination of techniques I had learned from workshops taken with Claudine Helmuth and Karlyn Holman.

The second collage was made using collage papers which we produced using Citrasolve on old National Geographic magazines and then ripping and layering them using matt medium. (image to come)

And then there were the most amazing rocks.   We marveled, we collected, we loaded up our suitcases and I loved using them as inspiration for paintings when I returned. (Image to come)

We visited other artists and saw a range of mosaics, from those in produced during  B.C. and found in temple ruins and those adapted to contemporary art.   I will explore our mosaic adventures on the next page.  (to come).

You rock! I love the feel of this site and your watercolor is fabulous. Where are we going in the next 12 months! I await your ideas.
