Watercolor Basics and Beyond is for beginning students of watercolor. You will be introduced to the fundamental elements of watercolor and challenges of working with water. There will be demonstrations of various techniques and a chance to view the work of other watercolor artists. Students will learn how to plan a painting, how to apply washes and glazes, how to make hard and soft edges and how to make use of the white paper. Students will also learn how to mix their colors and how to create shadows and light and a variety of textures.
Developing Artists is for intermediate to advanced students and will focus on the elements of good design and the mixing of different media. Various challenges will be given and the group will learn how to give and receive supportive critique. All mediums are welcome but their will be an emphasis on the use of various Watermedia and demonstrations on mixing media.
Collage Techniques and Design is open to beginning to advanced students. Students will learn how to create their own art papers using a variety of techniques and how to adhere them to supports. They will also learn how to make image transfers from inkjet and Xerox sources and will integrate them into their art work.
Class size are limited to 6 so that there will be time for individual instruction. Classes meet for 5 sessions of 3 hours each. Students are requested to bring their creative spirit and the willingness to play. A reminder that Island residents can apply to Island Arts for a scholarship to help defray costs for these courses.
